UTHealth Houston School of Public Health researched food insecurity in San Antonio with funding from Metro Health. They partnered with CINow to add that data and research to Bexar Data Dive to make sure that our community has easy access to it. The portal is a central repository for data on the nature and severity of food insecurity in San Antonio and an analysis of its root causes and health impacts.
Food insecurity indicators can be found on Bexar Data Dive under the “Environment” category. These include:
- Eligible Families Receiving SNAP
- Food Insecurity
- Retail Food Environment Index (RFEI)
- WIC Eligible Children Under 6
In addition, the UTHealth School of Public Health created two ways of exploring the food insecurity data online: a set of interactive maps and charts and a narrative ‘story map’, along with a companion user guide.
