CINow’s Danequa Forrest, Jeremy Pyne, Laura McKieran, and Cristina E. Martinez were published in the peer-reviewed journal Perspectives in Health Information Management for their article “A Process of User-Centered Design to Create a Social Determinants of Health Data Platform.”
The article explains how they employed a model of user-centered design to incorporate community input into the Bexar Data Dive platform. This involved an iterative process of interviews, focus groups, surveys, and user-testing with beginner and intermediate-level data users in the Bexar County community, as well as collaboration with a web developer to create the wire frames and final platform design based on user feedback. Participants wanted a health data tool that was easy to use, had the indicators they commonly need, and would provide visualizations for presentations, grants, and other projects. Through this process, CINow was able to create a data platform with over 8 million data points that incorporates community input.
